Metal Gate Prices in Ghana (2026): What Really Decides the Cost

"How much is a gate?" is the question every fabrication workshop in Ghana hears weekly — and the honest answer is always "it depends." This guide explains what it depends on, with realistic ranges, so you can budget properly and read a quotation with confidence.

Typical ranges (2026)

Prices vary with steel prices, design and location — treat these as starting ranges for a standard residential gate, not fixed prices. Your quote may fall outside them for good reasons.

Steel is priced globally and moves with the cedi, so a quote from March may not hold in September. A serious workshop will tell you how long their quotation is valid.

The six things that decide the price

1. Size of the opening. A 5-metre opening is not just "a bit more" than 4 metres — it needs heavier framing to stay straight, and more sheet to cover.
2. The steel itself. Square pipe gauge, sheet thickness, and whether the frame uses 1.5" or 2" section changes both the material bill and how the gate feels in ten years. The cheapest quote is usually thinner steel.
3. Design complexity. Flat sheet with simple lines fabricates in days. Laser-cut patterns, curves and wrought-iron scrollwork take skill and time — that is what you are paying for.
4. Finish. A gate that is properly cleaned, primed and finished with quality paint (or powder-coated) costs more upfront and years less in maintenance. In coastal areas like Accra and Takoradi, finishing is not decoration — it is rust protection.
5. Hardware and automation. Heavy-duty rollers, ground track, gear racks, and a motor with remotes can cost as much as a small gate by themselves. Budget motors exist; so do their replacement bills.
6. Transport and installation. Distance to site, concrete works for the track, and welding on site all add real cost. A quote that includes installation is not comparable to one that doesn't — check.

Swing or sliding?

• Swing gates are cheaper and simpler — but they need space to open, and on a slope they fight you.
• Sliding gates suit short driveways and slopes, look cleaner, and automate better — but they need a straight run along the wall, a track, and stronger fabrication.

If you plan to motorise later, say so now: a gate built for future automation is a small extra; converting one that wasn't is not.

Why two workshops quote very different prices

Because they are often quoting different gates. One is pricing 2" pipe, full priming, and heavy rollers; the other is pricing what makes the quote win. When quotes differ widely, ask each workshop to state the pipe size, sheet gauge, finish, and hardware brand in writing — then compare like with like. A detailed written quotation is itself a sign of a workshop that will still answer your calls after payment.

How to get an accurate quote

• Measure the opening (width and height) — or share a video of the space.
• Share a photo of a design you like; Pinterest screenshots are fine.
• Say whether the price should include the motor, transport and installation.
• Be honest about budget. A good fabricator can design to it; nobody can design to a secret.
